Days 248-250

Sooooo, I don't actually have any complete recordings of my food intake for the weekend, because after dinner friday there was beer. And Halloween candy. And then Saturday there was lots of errand running and a salad before the rum and sweet potato fries, and then there was beer. And apple martini punch. And that onion dip I love. Oh Halloween parties, how I love thee. Oh and 1 cookie! And Sunday there was leftover chicken curry and then there was beer. And pizza. So pretty much very good on the quantities of food, not so much on the quality, but here we are...

Day 245

Was all set to go for a run yesterday - even filled up my Camelbak and put on my shoes, but then my nose started running and I realized I must have a cold or something. It's kind of hard to tell when I'm taking Zyrtec D every morning, but some symptoms it just can't handle. So I took it easy and had some soup for dinner and sewed up another accessory for my Halloween costume. Then those damn candy corns and pumpkin seeds went and ruined my numbers....

Days 241-244

Sorry about the failure to blog all weekend and yesterday, but I was a VERY busy girl. Busy winning First Place all over town! Friday night I had a trunk show at the Salty Tea Cup. Only made one sale to a customer, but sold $135 worth of stuff to the store owner in trade for $125 worth of her stuff (OMG, the cute things I left there with! If you are local you will see them sprinkled into my wardrobe in the coming weeks so get used to hearing "oh this? This is from the Salty Teacup").

Then Saturday morning we drove up to Washington for the Underwater Pumpkin Carving contest. Stupid Google Navigation TOTALLY failed and made us an HOUR late, but people were still getting into the water and I managed to carve the winning pumpkin! Won a totally cool super warm fleece jacket that I promptly gave to Mark, as it's a size XXL, LOL.

Then ran home to grab the dogs and head off to Scapoose for the Columbia Humane Society's Dogtoberfest and costume contest. There was a little bit of competition from the Great Dane who was dyed red and had a "Clifford" sign hanging around his neck, but my girls swept the competition and walked off with a totally cute stuffed Candy Corn toy. They also had a pretty good spread - pulled pork sandwiches and German hot potato salad. I only ate half my sandwich, but I ate both mine and Mark's potato salad, then had some pineapple upside down cake.

Sunday we ran a few errands, grabbed some Taco Bell for lunch and then I sat down to sew my Halloween Costume. I also ended up making a stuffed turtle for Leeloo, who just LOVES it. And we watched movies and snacked on pumpkin seeds so we didn't have dinner and I completely failed to record my food ALL weekend.

Monday I did VERY well until I remembered we had pumpkin seeds and we opened a new bag of candy corn that we got at the little neighborhood market while walking the dogs, but we also picked up an onion and bell pepper for dinner and overall I did pretty good (see below).

Day 239

Was feeling ill from 4am on... I thought I was hungry. Had my high fiber muffin top for breakfast and regretted that the rest of the day. Felt it again at lunch so I had two servings of spaghetti leftovers (ugh, mistake). Ate dinner between doing my hair and makeup so that was fine. Then went out last night and was chilly so I had my "warming up" drink (Rumplemintz and hot chocolate). Then I ended up ordering some fries (oops!)

Day 238

We seem to be out of snack foods, so I was able to keep the numbers down, but tried to go for a run and got a headache and ended up having to stop and walk home because I felt like I was going to hurl. Showered and ate dinner, but headache came back. Then woke up at 4am (leg itched) then felt too warm and then nauseated again. Not sure if I was hungry, the feelings are similar to me. This is not a good time to feel poorly, I have have WAY too many things on my calendar.

Day 237

So I was very good at lunch and steamed the rest of the broccoli to have with the skin off Mark's baked potato from Monday night, and then had planned to have my leftover ribeye and mash from Friday's dinner from Rose and Thistle for dinner, but just a few bites in I asked Mark if he wanted to trade leftovers because he was having quiche and the steak just wasn't tasting very good to me. We traded and he deemed the steak "inedible" and proceeded to make himself a bagel sandwich since he really didn't want the quiche anyway. I'm telling you, the man just does NOT like leftovers. So I had a little more of the mashed potatoes, but they were all watery so I ended up eating pumpkin seeds instead. Apparently my body liked that idea and dropped 2 pounds instantly.

Days 234, 235 and 236

Apparently I was very bad on Friday, but we went out to celebrate Mark getting a 50 cent raise :)
And then I apparently failed to even record anything on Saturday or Sunday so I can be reasonably sure I was bad then too, though I'm not sure since I didn't really eat dinner on Saturday (but went to a party) and Sunday Mark and I split a slice of cheese pizza and some peanuts for lunch. I also made a quiche for lunch on Saturday (at 340 calories a slice) and then Sunday made more bagels and toasted some pumpkin seeds.

Day 233

Was having another fairly bad itching night. I have been allowing myself WAY too many snacks on nights when I have severe discomfort. At least I didn't drink a whole bottle of wine last night like I did on Wednesday. Made wheat bread for the first time... was a little difficult to slice, but managed it. Finally slept through the night though, so that's something.

Day 232

O.M.G. I really over did it, but OMG, my leg was KILLING me with itching and I figured anything that would distract me from that would be worth it. I'm not sure I feel the same way today considering the scale's reaction to my night of indulgence. As it turns out there are 5 glasses of wine in a bottle, not 3, and I just kept eating chocolate bars until I was finished. Oops!

Day 231 - uh oh, book club!

I always end up eating more than I should when we go to book club. Is it the limited menu at the Backstage Bar? or that I have to have more than one glass of wine? OH I know what it is.... it's going to see a movie after. I really have to plan for a trip to the movies, since I'm completely incapable of going without a snack.

Day 230

A little backsliding here today, but now the house is free of cake and pistachios, so I should be fine. And in another day or so I should be able to run on this leg, so that's good. Transitioning from pain to itch today - I personally thinking itching is worse, but that means it's healing.

Days 227, 228 and 229 - Fifth Wedding Anniversary and Tattoo

We had a whirlwind weekend starting at the Ruby Spa at Edgefield on Friday night for some soaking pool time before our formal dinner for 2 (which we ended up splitting). Though it occurs to me now that I completely forgot to add the split Caesar salad and the bread we had before our meal. Oh well. Then Saturday I barely ate at ALL, which totally explains the shakes I had by the end of my 7.5 hours of tattooing but not why I was still unable to eat my dinner salad. Too excited I guess. Then Sunday, a whole day of lounging on the sofa and snacking more than made up for Saturday, LOL.

Monday morning, umm.... dunno.

Day 226 - Cheeseburger Cheeseburger!

So I joined a new running group that meets at a bar in NE on Thursday nights, goes for a 5k run and then drinks beer. Sounds great, right? Well, they're all nice enough, but half of them are early 20's and "started running in college" and by the time we'd gone one block they all left me in the dust. Exactly what I expected, but it was getting dark (didn't take off till 6:45pm) and it was raining and I was only vaguely aware of the route and very unfamiliar with the area. So I ended up doing the 5k all by myself, in the dark, in the rain, almost entirely UPHILL along Interstate Ave. By the time I got back to the bar, most of the people were on their 2nd beer so I grabbed one and found a seat. Haven't decided if I'll go back yet. That hill was pretty gruesome. So when Mark and I got to Sukis for karaoke I figured I deserved a cheeseburger. Besides, with eating my low cal breads all day I had the calories to spare.

Day 225 - I made bagels. and DAMN they are good.

So I am taking issue with what my little program says about bagels. Why in the HELL should a bagel have almost 300 calories in it? Mine don't! I did some research last night to confirm my theory, but food only contains as many calories as the sum of it's ingredients! It's not like when you combine yeast and sugar they make MORE calories. Therefore my bagels which only contain:

water = 0
1.5 tsp salt =  0
2 Tbsps sugar = 92
3 cups bread flour = 1320
2.25 tsp yeast = 0

equals 1412 divided by 9 servings is only 156.8 calories per bagel!!!! What the CRAP do they put in everyone else's bagels??? Do I even want to know? So basically, homemade IS low calories bagels! I wonder how many are in my French bread.. lets see... water, salt, yeast - all zero. Ok, 2 tsp sugar and 3 cups flour. That's 1350 total, and I cut it into 28 slices, that's 48 calories a slice!!!!!! Sure, they are kinda small since they were supposed to be baguettes and ended up being two slightly short loaves, but good GRIEF! What the hell is making regular sandwich bread be over 100 calories a slice???? and this tastes SOOO much better. I wonder then, why other yummy real food things have to have so damn many calories... like a little red potato. WTF potato? Why you so laden with calories? I love you. Why you be so mean? Anyhow.... fresh, homemade bagel for breakfast... mmmmmm.......

Thursday morning, 146.1 lbs

1 serving Whoppers - 190

Total = 1804 ha! 1691. Ok, still not great, I should not have eaten the pistachios, but I'm currently between projects and have nothing to occupy my hands while watching tv.

Day 224

So I went for a tiny little 2 mile run at lunch, but then had WAY too many snacks after dinner because we were watching a movie and I had no crafting thing to occupy my hands. With the weather turning chilly so fast, perhaps I should have dragged out my knitting? Anyhow, I settled on toast for breakfast yesterday, but now we are officially out of bread so I have to bake some more today. I felt much better after the toast than Monday after the high-fiber cereal and milk, so I'm debating going with something like that again or reintroducing one of the variables (high-fiber) in the form of a Vitatop (for anyone unfamiliar with these things that keep popping up in my list, they are muffin tops in many flavors - I only like the chocolate and corn ones - that are high in fiber and only 100 calories.). It's chilly (70 degrees in my office) so I may go for a bowl of instant oatmeal instead. Yeah, instant, blah, blah, blah, but it's all I've got.

Day 223

So I broke the "homemade" trend first thing in the morning with a bowl of cereal, and paid the price for it all day. I felt so bad I didn't even get a run in. I'm not sure if it's the high fiber content or the milk still. This has been an ongoing problem that I tried to solve with soy milk, but didn't see much difference, so maybe it's just the high fiber bit? Regardless, I will NOT be having cereal for breakfast today. Though, that leaves the question, what the heck am I gonna have???

Picked up the "new" food processor last night, washed it out and chopped fresh broccoli and then put it in a bowl of water with some bullion and herbs and stuck it in the microwave for 5 minutes to steam. Strained it and plopped it on my baked potato with some non-butter and light sour cream. Was pretty good. Could have used a couple more minutes of steaming as it was still crunchy. Then use the food processor to whip up some shortbread dough. Man, that made it worth the $15 right there! Did you know there are only 3 ingredients in shortbread? Yeah. Flour, sugar and butter. So easy and we usually have them all in the house. 25 minutes on 325 and you have awesome homemade cookies. Can't eat too many though, because of the butter. Not sure my program has the correct calorie count, but still.

Day 222 - Homemade

As predicted, it's a lot harder to eat low cal AND homemade. Low cal stuff must literally be made from air and I don't know how to get that into recipes. Either that or the candy corn ruined everything. Good thing I ate it all. Plus, there's a lot of things I really don't know how to record - like how much of the butter I put in the pan to cook the french toast do I have to count? How much of the beer I put in the stew? BUT I am happy to report the ENTIRE weekend (aside from drinks) was homemade. Yesterday I made french toast with the homemade sourdough bread and then we had my crockpot beef stew. Twice. The first time at 3pm with the last of the sourdough (it wasn't QUITE done) and then again at 8pm with the first of my 2nd loaf of bread made entirely of ingredients... that sounds weird. I guess by "from ingredients" I mean "from scratch". It had in it only: water, margarine, sugar, salt, flour and yeast. That's it. White bread is only supposed to have 6 ingredients. Look on your bags of store bought and see how many it has. Yeah, that's exactly why I decided to start baking our own.

Now, this loaf I didn't make entirely "by hand" because I bought a bread machine at a garage sale this weekend ($5, woohoo!) so all I did was throw in the ingredients and wait 3 hours and BOOM! bread. However, we discovered that the "non-stick" coating in it leaves a LOT to be desired and we ended up losing the whole bottom of the loaf. I had purchased a couple bread pans from the dollar store on Saturday, so this isn't a huge deal, just means we'll be using a bit more energy to bake the bread if I have to do it in the oven and just use the machine to mix and knead the dough which was the super messy bit before anyhow. I mean, I'm REALLY glad I took my rings off before I started because at one point I had to use my elbow to turn on the water I was so covered in goo. Alternatively, I could try spraying cooking spray into the bread maker. We'll try it one time and see what happens.

Day 220 and 221 - it couldn't last

So, I pretty much knew when I saw the 144 the other day that it couldn't be real. You can't really go from 148 one day to 144 the next, it just isn't possible. What IS possible is the 146 I have kept for two days though. Hopefully that will last thru the next little experiment.

We are beginning a new challenge here at the Tucker household that is going to make counting and recording exact calories SUPREMELY more difficult. In a little burst of peer pressure (and in response to reading this), we made a trip to the produce aisle of the store and picked up some veggies and have planned out the whole weekend's worth of meals (and then some) involving nothing but homemade or whole foods. The days of my 45 calorie bread, I fear, have been quite left behind.

It started innocently enough with a stir fry of steak, peppers and pea pods over brown rice on Friday night, then Saturday I made sourdough bread. Granted, it was from a mix, but it was a start. Then I threw together the ingredients for crockpot beef stew (cooking now, will have for dinner tonight) and fried up some chicken sausage with peppers and onions that we had with some of the sourdough for dinner last night. So far so good.
